It is the surreal story of Chang (elephant in Thai), who forgets himself in the search for his cat, Bye Bye.
The elephant designates images.
The Chinese philosopher Han Fei Zi, a scholar who lived in the third century B.C., remarked that “Humans rarely see a living elephant, but when they find the carcass of a dead elephant, they base themselves on this vision in order to imagine it alive.” Since then, the elephant has been used to designate anything that allows the human mind to form an idea of something, be it an emblem, symbol, or figure. Images, the intermediaries between sentient and invisible beings or symbols, are an evocation of reality. And images are destined to disappear, just like the lost cat called Bye Bye and a robot that acts as a cat, carrying a stop sign on a pedestrian crossing. (EN)
L’Éléphant s’évapore questionne la frontière de la perception entre l’imagination et la réalité, l’existence et la disparition, le virtuel et l’analogique. C’est l’histoire surréaliste de Chang (« éléphant » en thaïlandais), qui s’oublie dans la recherche de son chat appelé Bye Bye.
L’éléphant désigne les images. Le philosophe chinois Han Fei Zi, un lettré qui vivait au IIIe siècle avant notre ère, remarqua que : « les humains voient rarement un éléphant vivant, mais lorsqu’ils trouvent la carcasse d’un éléphant mort, ils se fondent sur cette vision pour se le figurer vivant ». Depuis lors, l’éléphant sert à désigner tout ce qui permet à l’esprit humain de se faire une idée : emblème, symbole, figure...
Les images, intermédiaires entre les êtres sensibles et invisibles ou alors symboles, sont une évocation du réel. Et les images sont destinées à disparaître, tout comme le chat perdu appelé Bye Bye et un robot qui fait office de chat, portant un panneau stop sur un passage piéton. (FR)
